Wish List

I finally stopped daydreaming about doing it and I just did it. I went out, bought a huge map of the world and posted it on my wall. Now I'm going to buy thumbtacks of various colors and push them into all the places I still want to visit. I'm such a dork. Sometimes daydreaming's even funner than doing. Well, not really, but if you're locked in place for a few months like I have to be (job, $) you have to let your love of travel out somehow.
So, my map will have pins in these places at first:

Alaska (my dad's taking me there to see the Aurora lights)
*Nigeria (umm...WHY would I go THERE? Hmm...)
*Kenya/Tanzania/Uganda
*Egypt
Morocco
*Holy Land
*Saudi Arabia (I know I have to wait on this one)
Brazil (E and I might go later this year if we can raise the funds...he speaks the language and has family everywhere we can stay with!)
New Zealand (my dad and grandad have always wanted to go, so they've convinced me. Plus, L and Z might live there and let me visit)
Japan (I never cared before I saw this doc on it the other day. One out of every two people there kareoke--how can I pass THAT up!?)
India (elephant rides)
*Ukraine (homeland! Perhaps this July.)
Russia (homeland!)
Poland (homeland!)
Istanbul (was Constantinople)
San Diego (next year?)
*Grand Canyon/Sedona/Arizona/New Mexico/Texas (L and Z!)
New Orleans (well, when it gets...better)
*Prince Edward Island
Vancouver
Yukon

OK that's it. I should just join a cruise ship staff.

call me when you're going to poland! we can visit our homeland together! (all the mad crazy Taize people at the catholic center where I hang out know this polish taize song...I'll learn it and people can be impressed we know some polish...do you know any more? I can only say "I love you" "Thank you" and "Give me money" (stuff my grandfather taught me...) which will work if we want to go there and beg but otherwise...

JS: ha ha about that book! Since it's short I may want to borrow it sometime and try my luck at it. It sounds infuriating but maybe it won't bother me since I'll alreday know the end going into it? I want to try a Russian novel but the dog thing sounds TOO crazy....
Etrangere: Tell me more about Taize! I've heard so much about it! Whoa, you know the important stuff in Polish! Really, I can't think of anything else we'd need to say. :) I never knew we were kindred peoples...add Papa into the mix and that's really cool. Long live the Poles! Did you grow up with an insane amount of Pollok jokes too?

I don't know that much...I think it was founded by this Frere Roger guy who was recently assisinated, kinda aimed more towards young people (they have these huge gatherings with like 30,000 some people!!!), it's very ecumenical and international and involves lots of chanting or singing type prayers, you know, singing the same phrase over and over in kinda a meditative way...the people at the catholic center who go all the time know all these songs and harmonies and they sound really really pretty...

and yeah, I had my share of pollock jokes :) not to mention fish, saurkraut soup, stewed fruit and pierogis on Christmas eve.
